3 Prevalent Myths about Frozen Foods

The meal preparation now is not as it used to be before. Due to our hectic and busy lifestyle, cutting corners while preparing a daily meal has become common. Also, the frequent trips to restaurants and grocery store haul of the affordable and quickest dinner options. In such time, the frozen food aisle in a grocery store is a favourite stop. There are many concerns raised and many myths spawned about the frozen food. Many of them are not true. Here are three common myths about frozen foods that are debunked in this blog.

Frozen Food is Less Nutritious

While it is true that during storage, frozen food loses some of its nutritional value, but it often has more nutritional value than the fresh food readily available in your local grocery store. Frozen vegetables and fruits and may be even more beneficial than some of the fresh produce sold in supermarkets. It is because they tend to be processed at their peak ripeness, a time when they are most nutrient-packed. If you’re worried about the nutrient loss, eat your frozen fruits, veggies and frozen halal meat soon after purchase. If preserved for a much longer period the nutrients in frozen vegetables do inevitably degrade. Finally, steam or microwave rather than boil your produce to minimize the loss of water-soluble vitamins.

Myth 2: All Frozen Food is Deeply Processed

Although the grocery freezers are laden with unhealthy frozen dinners and processed meal stocks, there are plenty of healthy choices as well. When buying the frozen foods, opt for whole and natural foods whenever possible. Refrain from reaching for highly-processed products. Just make sure to double-check the ingredient labels and avoid those with long lists of preservatives and additives.

It is a well-known fact that the process of freezing is a natural preservative method on its own. In contrast to many other processed foods items that gradually make up a significant part of western diets, frozen meat does not contain any harmful preservatives. It is a standard process that purely takes a reduction in temperature and packaging with minimum to zero preservatives.

Myth 3: Frozen Food is Costlier

Frozen food doesn’t have to be more costly than fresh food. Stocking up on frozen fruits, vegetables and halal meats can save a lot of money on your annual grocery bill. It might even be a better idea to invest in a second freezer to make sure you have ample space to hold all of your frozen halal meats.
